Proper Named Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week

University Park, Pa., Feb. 6, 2006 – Senior men’s volleyball player Matt Proper (Guys Mills, Pa.) has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I/II National Player of the Week, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today. Proper was instrumental in 12th-ranked Penn State’s victories over Juniata and No. 3 Long Beach State at the Penn State Invitational.

No. 12 Men’s Volleyball Shocks No. 3 Long Beach State, 3-1

University Park, Pa., Feb. 4, 2006 - Senior Matt Proper (Guys Mills, Pa.) pounded 21 kills on .581 hitting to help the 12th-ranked Penn State men’s volleyball team upset third-ranked Long Beach State in four games (30-22, 21-30, 30-20, 30-27) Saturday night in front of 2,372 fans. The Nittany Lions even their record to 4-4 while the 49ers fall to 10-2.

The win marks the first Penn State victory over Long Beach State since March 5, 1988.

No. 12 Men’s Volleyball Tops Juniata, 3-1

University Park, Pa., Feb. 3, 2006 - The 12th-ranked Penn State men’s volleyball team improved to 3-0 in the EIVA Tait with a four-game win over Juniata (30-23, 22-30, 30-18, 30-18) Friday night in the second match of the Penn State Invitational. The Nittany Lions improve to 3-4 for the year while the Eagles fall to 3-2 and 1-1 in the conference.

Penn State takes on No. 3 Long Beach State on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. at Rec Hall.

Penn State sweeps NYU

University Park, Pa., Jan. 27, 2006 - The 12th-ranked Penn State men’s volleyball team got back on the winning track, defeating New York University in three games (30-23, 30-18, 30-19) Friday night in the south gym of Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions improve to 2-4 and 2-0 in the EIVA while the Violets even their record at 2-2 and fall to 0-1 in the EIVA...
